How do I get out of my echo chamber

I’ve been reading Playboy.

Depending which generation you were born in you may have a different reaction to that. But I have really enjoyed their recent articles about politics, sex and celebrities.

These are perspectives about topics that I wouldn’t have come close to knowing two years ago.

I have had to force myself out of a media algorithm, almost all of the content I consumed was made by white male influencers. I think this came from my interest in games where at a young age this was the top people and the algorithm just kept pushing this political content, comedy, economics, games, science, history and news. An unconscious bias had clearly developed to where I was just in an echo chamber.

Since then I have made a conscious effort to view content I’m interested in by all creators, still only watching if it is of interest. Whilst views and content don’t drastically differ there are different subcultures and perspectives which influence the storytelling to shape my worldview.

I’ve never been in the generation who read newspapers for information, but as trust of large media erodes over time with concerns over influence, I am relying more and more on views of individuals who I trust and are informed.

Even if that source is Playboy.
